Vendredi le 13 Juillet :: Hello. Ni Hao. Hola. Salut.

by zensationtealady

Bienvenue.

Perhaps it is a good sign that this ominous date is the first date in the fabled blog for and about Zensation Tea House, and just a dash of personal indulgence.

Zensation Tea House is a passion project/labour of love/attempt at work-life balance and a hands-down refusal to give into Da Man.

You see, I didn’t always own and work in a serene and nostalgic little tea house.

In fact this time last year I was working a decidedly grey office job as a “Marketing Associate” in a shall-not-be-named non-bank Foreign Exchange provider – you guys know who you are 😉 Thrilling stuff. Inspired even. Are you getting the sarcasm people?

It was my first ever Real Job at age 27. And I don’t really even know why I took it. I’m a freaking Arts graduate! I’m into languages and history and had never dreamed of being in the Finance sector. Perhaps that’s just the Asian in me, me and numbers just click . Years of Kumon. Need I say more. (google it if so)

Entonces… I was attempting to achieve a “work/life” balance – and frankly after a few years working on a small but ultimately hobby business I decided holiday pay, sick pay, weekends off, Super etc etc was all too great a lure. I don’t know what I was thinking. Rather safe thoughts I would hazard.

So on it goes, 3 or so years of grey. Many shades of grey, fifty shades at least.

In that time lots of things can and do happen in the life of a 27 year old Sydney gal.

Le GFC, L’amour, Le finale, Le Vipassana, Le turned 30, Le quit the grey job in the grey building with the grey walls and grey outlook.

I don’t mean to sound judgmental – each to their own, strokes and folks and all that jazz. But for me, day in day out working in an uninspired office job, with nothing much to excite you beyond looking forward to your next paid holiday (definite perk), whatever bloody reality TV show is numbing your mind, and what you’re going to make for dinner, does not a life make.

So you see, that’s why I simply had to get out of the rat race and into the tea game. For the dolla dolla billz y’all.

So anyway, welcome to the official first entry in the famed blog of Zensation’s Tea Lady where we will endeavor to bring you some insight and humour, inspired by a day in the life of a tea lady, featuring a mélange of various characters that grace the tea house, who may or may not be heavily embellished, edited or conjured.

Throw in some cultural (music, art, design) bits and pieces, even some stuff about tea and you’ve got yourself a blog!

So sit back, relax and unwind while I pour myself a cup of tea and listen to this tune.

And happy Black Friday to ye all.

Tea du jour: Ginger Bliss Herbal Tea (taken with lots of honey)

Tunes: Nicolas Jaar – And I Say ft. Scout Larue and Will Epstein
